Punjab: Manbir Sandhu has alleged that he received a series of threatening calls from individuals claiming to have links with underworld networks. According to Sandhu, the callers appeared to be communicating through what he believes was a concealed satellite communication system, raising concerns about the origin and sophistication of the threats.
Sandhu stated that no clear personal connection, dispute, or motive was discussed during the calls, making the nature of the communication particularly mysterious. He said the threats left him concerned for his safety and prompted him to take precautionary measures.
Following the calls, Sandhu claimed that he noticed several unidentified vehicles allegedly tracking his movements. Fearing for his security, he decided to remain underground for a period of time while assessing the situation and coordinating with authorities.
Despite the circumstances, Sandhu praised the Punjab Police for their response. He said senior IPS officers have been supportive and proactive in addressing his concerns. According to him, law enforcement agencies in Punjab assist young people who receive such threats and provide security protection whenever necessary.
Sandhu also highlighted what he described as the significant advancement of Punjab’s intelligence and security capabilities compared to previous decades. He remarked that the state’s intelligence network has evolved considerably since the 1980s, enabling authorities to respond more effectively to emerging security challenges.Looking ahead, Sandhu said he plans to personally submit a formal complaint to the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) in New Delhi in the near future. The allegations are reportedly under examination, and further details are awaited as authorities continue to assess the matter.
